The qualification is aimed at learners over the age of 16, who use brush-cutters or trimmers as part of their work, either in horticulture, arboriculture or forestry. This covers the use of brush-cutters or trimmers, pre-use checks and maintenance, identification of controls and instruments and operating the machine to cut or trim to the capacity of the machine. This person can: carry out a risk assessment, describe the relevant health and safety legislation, select the appropriate PPE for trimmer and brush-cutter operations, identify the health and safety features of the equipment being used, maintain and operate the trimmer/brush-cutter, describe different operating techniques, store equipment safely and appropriately.
